President Al-Sharaa Issues Legislative Decree Launching New National Currency

President Ahmed Al-Sharaa has issued Legislative Decree No. 293 for the year 2025, mandating the launch of the new Syrian national currency, which will officially enter circulation starting January 1, 2026.

The decree stipulates the replacement of current banknotes with new issues by removing two zeros from the nominal value; essentially, 100 old Syrian Pounds will equal 1 new Syrian Pound.

The replacement process will be conducted gradually through the Central Bank of Syria and authorized centers. The decree ensures that no fees or taxes will be imposed on the exchange process, aiming to facilitate financial transactions and boost confidence in the national economy during the reconstruction phase.
